Czesław Marchaj

Professor Czesław A. Marchaj [1] (born in Słomniki, Poland, on July 9, 1918) is a Polish Yachtsman whose published scientific study of the aerodynamics and hydrodynamics of sailing boats has been hugely influential on yacht, sail and rig designers since the publication of his classic work "Sailing Theory & Practice" in the mid 1960s. He was the Polish national Finn class champion. Marchaj conducted research at the English Experimental Laboratory, Southampton University. A member of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA) [2], he was awarded the coveted silver medal of The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) [3] . Marchaj returned to a secluded part of France.
